Reopening of health & fitness facilities & services in Malaysia

Reopening of health & fitness facilities & services in Malaysia
The Issue
The operators, staff, teams, enthusiasts and consumers of the Health & Fitness industry here in Malaysia (HFM) implore the Malaysian Government leaders and ministries to review our proposals, and not only allow, but promote & encourage our reopening, at the earliest opportunity.
Aside from the impending danger to the industry survival, we must also highlight that structured, programmed, supervised and prescribed exercise and workouts are nowadays crucial in the fight against many illnesses & diseases - such as diabetes, obesity, lung disease, heart disease, and even mental health. It is also vital to have an a healthy and strong immune system, especially today.
The leading gym brands here in Malaysia have already submitted full and meaningful SOPs and dossiers - With reopening guidelines on new-normal practices, reduced occupancy levels, preregistration for classes, safe social distancing, facility rearrangement, and enhanced cleaning & sanitizing - to MITI and MOH. We now ask for those dossiers and the recently sent version from ourselves (HFM) to be reviewed, adjusted if needed and approved.
Currently, many small businesses within the health & fitness industry - which are mostly owned by Malaysian individuals, or small groups of Malaysian & foreign residents, and whom employ 99% Malaysian staff - are close to insolvency.
These businesses continue to pay rent, pay staff, and pay high equipment leases. With close to zero income.
Without reopening, before early June or end of May, it is highly likely many of these businesses will be forced to close permanently, and face insolvency. This means hundreds or thousands of people - admin staff, management, customer service, membership consultants, personal trainers, cleaners, contractors, suppliers and maintenance persons - may lose their jobs permanently.
It also means we will all be left without health and fitness facilities.
The industry needs to reopen. For the businesses survival, for the workers' job and livelihoods and for the betterment of Malaysia's health & well being.
Please sign this petition to show your support for this cause!
