Modify the Restrictive Abortion Ban to Include Reasonable Exceptions

Modify the Restrictive Abortion Ban to Include Reasonable Exceptions
The Issue
Current abortion laws often put too many restrictions on a woman's right to choose, creating challenging predicaments for many. The modification we're advocating for won't give unlimited rights, but rather reasonable exceptions where the law can allow abortions. These include permitting legal abortion in the first trimester—a timeframe where according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the vast majority of abortions occur, thus reflecting the normative choice of many women. Our proposed change also covers cases where continuing with the pregnancy puts the woman's life at risk, a scenario that the World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes as a fundamental factor in considering abortion. Lastly, our modified law would allow women to have an abortion if they were pregnant as a result of rape, considering the psychological trauma it imposes. The United Nations (UN) has emphasized the need to consider such circumstances in law, stating that abortion laws should always respect and protect women's physical and mental health. By signing this petition, you are not just supporting more humane and nuanced laws; you are standing with women's right to safety, choice, and dignity in times of crisis. Please sign this petition.
