Modify Speed Limit Warning (ISA) System in the Audi Q4 e-tron
Il problema
Dear Audi,
We, the undersigned, are owners and drivers of the Audi Q4 e-tron, a vehicle that we greatly appreciate for its innovative technology and commitment to safety. However, we would like to bring to your attention a matter regarding the automatic activation of both the acoustic and visual signals for speed limit warnings, which occurs every time the vehicle is started.
According to European Union Regulation (EU) 2019/2144, new vehicles must be equipped with Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) systems, designed to alert drivers when they exceed the speed limit. While this regulation is a crucial step towards improving road safety, it does not explicitly mandate the simultaneous use of both an acoustic and visual signal. The regulation gives manufacturers flexibility in how ISA warnings are implemented, allowing for either visual or auditory feedback, or a combination of both.
Audi’s current interpretation of this rule in the Q4 e-tron, where both signals are activated at every startup, has caused inconvenience and distractions for many drivers. Many of us find the acoustic signals particularly disruptive, even when the speed limit is exceeded by a small margin. These alerts can be an unnecessary distraction from driving and negatively impact the overall driving experience. Additionally, the requirement to reconfigure these settings with every restart of the vehicle adds further frustration.
We respectfully request that Audi updates the software in the Q4 e-tron to allow drivers the flexibility to customize their speed limit warnings. Specifically, we propose:
1) Allowing the driver to choose between acoustic and visual alerts, or to disable one of the alerts, while still complying with the requirements of EU Regulation (EU) 2019/2144 on ISA.
2) Ensuring that these preferences are retained across driving sessions, so that drivers do not have to reconfigure the settings each time the vehicle is started.
We believe that these changes will enhance both safety and convenience for Audi Q4 e-tron drivers, and we ask that Audi takes this request into consideration in future software updates.
