Modernize Fraser Valley Dog Licensing Policies
Modernize Fraser Valley Dog Licensing Policies
The Issue
Dog owners in the Fraser Valley are asking for a more modern and fair approach to dog licensing and late fees.
Currently, the system mainly relies on paper mail and email reminders. In today’s world, many people rely on text messages, apps, and auto-payment systems to manage important renewals and bills.
We are asking local government and animal control services to modernize the current system by introducing:
Text message reminders before licenses expire
Overdue notices by text and email
Flexible payment plan options
Easier online renewals and auto-renewal options
A mobile app or online portal for payments and account management
Transparency showing where licensing fees are being used
Automatic mailing of updated dog tags upon renewal, if tags are required yearly
We are also asking for a review of the current late penalty system. Residents can currently face an immediate $200 fine for missing a renewal. We believe a fairer approach would include reminder notices, grace periods, and smaller escalating late fees before reaching higher penalties.
This petition is not against dog licensing. Responsible pet ownership matters, and licensing helps support animal services and reunite lost pets with their families.
We simply believe the system should better reflect how people live and communicate today.
Please sign and share this petition if you support a fairer and more modern dog licensing system in the Fraser Valley.
