MoCo Council: Vote Down the University Boulevard Corridor Plan

MoCo Council: Vote Down the University Boulevard Corridor Plan
The Issue
We, the undersigned, hereby pledge and/or make known our intent to vote against County Council members who support the University Boulevard Corridor Plan ("UBC Plan").
The UBC Plan, a plan to rezone University Boulevard between Wheaton and the Capital Beltway, will make our roads more congested, harder to navigate, and less accessible, while forcing higher-density development on surrounding neighborhoods. Four lanes of traffic will be removed, speed limits slashed, turns restricted, merge zones eliminated, and Beltway access made more difficult. We oppose this plan and call on County leaders to reject it, or be held accountable at the polls.
The UBC Plan, as it stands, shows minimal regard for public involvement. Neighborhoods directly affected by the plan were deliberately excluded from outreach and engagement, and community objections to the plan have gone unaddressed and been papered over and ignored. Without a comprehensive understanding of the community's needs and concerns, how can decisions be made in our best interest? Decisions of this magnitude, which will inherently alter the landscape and dynamics of our communities, must be made with the full participation and insight of all residents, not imposed on them over and above their voiced objections to it.
As residents, it is not only our right but our duty to hold our elected officials accountable for the decisions that shape our future. We will remember those who support this plan at the polls, ensuring that the County Council reflects the will and interests of the community it serves.
