MOBY's STORY/ WHY THIS PETITION MATTERS
The Issue
This petition is to be presented to:
The Board of Directors Of ACCT PHILLY including Former DNC Chair the Honorable Ed Rendell
Mayor Cherelle Parker
Senator John Fetterman
Senator Bob Casey
All local news and television stations in the greater Philadelphia area
SOS REVAMP OUR SHELTERS and the people who have signed this petition believe that the current Executive Director of ACCT Philly is not someone who should hold this position.
As we read how she took this dog home for the weekend to get to know him, spoke highly of him and his personality then proceeded to take him back to the shelter fed him a cheeseburger, watched him play with the other dogs then led him into a room and euthanized him. This along with many other stories like Saint who was someone's dog that they euthanized and covered up. Emerys who was wanted by someone but they couldn't get their before closing and Ms. Barnett refused to hold the dog overnight. All these stories are verifiable online and by people who follow ACCT Philly. The types of incidents cannot continue to happen.
WE SAY THAT SHELTERS SHOULD BE SAFE HAVENS FOR ANIMALS NOT THE SLAUGHTERHOUSES THEY HAVE BECOME
NOW THE STATEMENT FROM THE CURRENT ACCT PHILLY DIRECTOR

In Her Own Words.
Moby is urgent and needs an adopter or rescue by 10am Thursday Not due to any concerning medical or behavioral issue, but simply because there are not enough adopters and fosters to keep up with the volume of dogs coming in (100+ a week) to ACCT Philly. There is a lot of work to be done locally and nationally to get to a place where all adoptable and healthy/treatable animals find homes. But Moby is one of many animals who can’t wait that long and is hoping that someone will adopt him and let him be a walking and galluphing example of what great dogs you can adopt at the shelter.
Moby is also a great example of the impact of spending time with shelter animals does. He came to us in rough shape, scared, and having apparently recently lost a battle with caution tape. But he’s blossomed thanks to the time and patience (and cheese) staff and volunteers have put into helping him feel comfortable.
So who is the real Moby?
Tonight I took him home and found out.
It turns out he is goofy, playful, lacks paw / eye coordination more than you thought possible, is a little socially awkward with other dogs , enjoys car rides, loves cheese .
He is housetrained too! He also tolerates a bath
His unique skill? Admiring himself in the Mirror. Not kidding. See video in post
His ideal home? Someone who is active and patient. He is eager to please but doesn’t know how, so needs someone who can help teach him. He loves treats so that helps with training! He was great with kids who met him in the lobby the first week he arrived, but because he gets so excited and needs a calm person to help him settle down and stop jumping up like a boxing kangaroo, he would do best with teens or no kids.
He has had good and not good dog meets, I think with a calm dog who wouldn’t get in his face a ton he would be ok, provided he has slow intros. You can see in the video of him meeting am unneutered male he is fine and doesn’t fixate or anything, but growled a little when face to face.
He seems younger than we thought - his teeth are pearly white and his mannerisms are very puppy like, maybe 2 years old or so?
If you’re interested in adopting him or are a rescue interested, please come to the shelter at 10am or contact me.
*update: thank you to everyone who shared. We waited until the end of the day hoping Moby would have someone come for him, but no one did. As he had no placement, After hanging out outside where he played a while and enjoyed lots of pets and a cheeseburger, we went inside and proceeded with euthanasia
