Why this petition matters

Started by Jennifer Wenzel

The Moab City Council recently voted to go forth with a location for Pickleball Courts they received a grant for at Old City Park. This is one of the quietest parks remaining in Moab and outside city limits so our neighborhood wasn’t aware of the idea until after it passed.  Research shows that this type of recreational activity clashes with neighborhoods they’ve been installed in as they have a tonal & repetitive noise that travels.

We live in a Rural Residential neighborhood with dark skies, quiet days, farm animals, wild animals, and all around peacefulness.  I think that is the big allure to those who travel out of city limits and bring your kids to play, disc golf, do yoga, sit by the waterfall, or have your events here. The view shed is amazing and the quiet is something to be cherished in our busy tourist town.

Please consider signing this petition if you agree and sending emails into the City Council and Annie McVay at our parks dept requesting that they find a better suited location or forfeit the grant if they can’t find a suitable location on city property.  If it’s “too noisy” for downtown Swanny Park it most definitely is not a good fit at Old City Park.  Our suggestion is to work together with the county and see if the Arena could be an option and they split costs to offset the grant they would give up.
