Last week a world famous lone wolf, Takaya, was shot dead by a trophy hunter on Vancouver Island. The animal was the subject of a world famous documentary by Cheryl Alaxendar, Takaya: Lone Wolf.
A lot of Canadians are mourning the death of a beloved creature who overcame challenges and offered hope to many in distressing times by showing how to adapt to its difficult surroundings.
It is outrageous and appalling that in this day and age when there are so many threats to our fragile ecosystem, British Columbia's laws allow people to kill animals just for fun.
This must stop and now. I urge the British Columbia government to pass legislation to make trophy hunting in the province illegal.
