My home, Pakistan, is suffering greatly from the devastating impacts of the greenhouse effect. Our lands are experiencing rising temperatures, intense heatwaves, and unpredictable monsoons that are a direct result of climate change spurred on by the greenhouse effect. According to the Global Climate Risk Index 2020, Pakistan ranks fifth on the list of countries most affected by climate change in the last 20 years, and this trend is on the rise. Our rivers are drying up due to the melting of glaciers in the north, leading to severe water shortages. This, in turn, is causing massive agricultural downfall, contributing to the food insecurity faced by millions in our country. Our people and land are in great peril and we need immediate action. We must implement laws that regulate and control the emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) to mitigate the effects of climate change in Pakistan. Our collective effort can restore the beauty and tranquility of our nation.
