Mitchell Shire to maintain funding for crossing supervisors at Lithgow Street crossing

Mitchell Shire to maintain funding for crossing supervisors at Lithgow Street crossing
The issue
It's our responsibility to ensure our children’s safety as they navigate their daily lives. Every school day, there is a busy and often chaotic scene at Lithgow Street at the top of the Mandalay Circuit roundabout, where there is constant traffic from all four directions. Despite the supervision of our dedicated crossing guards, the volume and speed of vehicles still pose a significant threat to our young ones.
Mitchell Shire Council plans to stop funding a manned crossing at the busy Lithgow Street/Mandalay Circuit intersection at the end of Term 2, claiming recent road upgrades make supervisors unnecessary. As parents, carers and neighbours we strongly disagree.
Every school day, our crossing supervisors stand in that intersection to keep our children safe , helping kids cross calmly, managing the growing traffic between Beveridge Primary School, buses and nearby day cares, and stepping in when drivers don’t stop at zebra crossings. Road markings and signs don’t replace the steady eyes and adult authority that stop risky behaviour and prevent accidents. It's imperative that we act now to avert any future tragedies and ensure that every child in our community feels secure going to and from school.
Join the call to safeguard our children's well-being by demanding Mitchell Shire continue the funding of manned crossing at Lithgow Street. Sign this petition to advocate for a safer Lithgow Street crossing.
