Justice For Josie! Honor and Protect Indigenous Spirituality!

This petition had 7,253 supporters

Josie Valadez Fraire was handcuffed, detained, cited and had a mugshot taken by Denver Police Department for smudging sage... Josie was a peaceful demonstrator at a Donald Trump protest and was exercising her First Amendment rights to let her voice be heard that his hatred was not welcomed in Denver........Lets support Josie in court and the Constitutional Rights and Spiritual belief's of our Indigenous People.

"Smudging sage is an Indigenous practice that has happened for generations upon generations on this very land. It is used to cleanse negative energy and bless the space. They (DPD) by handcuffing me - detaining me and crushing my sage and prohibiting me from practicing my spirituality are actively abridging upon my constitutional rights. I can practice my spirituality in whatever form I choose," shared Josie.

Her fight is our fight. We must, as a country, honor and protect Indigenous Spirituality. It is essential that this injustice not be over looked! Josie's right to free speech and freedom of religion have been violated. Sign and Share this petition with your networks!

Also, stand in solidarity with Josie on August 1st, 2016 at 8:00 am at the Lindsey-Flanagan Courthouse (520 W Colfax Ave, Denver, Colorado 80204) for a non-violent and peaceful gathering in support of Josie. Find us in court room 160.
