Shelter Kentucky's Homeless Youth

Shelter Kentucky's Homeless Youth
The Issue
Recently an article was published by the Lexington Herald-Leader that brought to light the epidemic that is youth homelessness. In Kentucky alone, there are over 31,000 school-aged children that are recognized as homeless by their school districts. This number has grown from the 2014-2015 report of 29,941. The reporting methods used by school systems generally rely on self-report from parents, and so many children are not identified until later when a problem associated with homelessness arises.
We hope to bring attention to this problem, and with this attention, we hope that our elected officials will address possible ways to help. It is our mission to advocate for increased aid to these children and for the funding deemed necessary by local shelters to properly house homeless youth.
