MIT Should Hold an Opt-In, Socially Distanced, In-Person Graduation for the Class of 2021
The Issue
Rather than be fully online, there should be an opt-in, socially distanced, in-person graduation at Fenway Park (or a similar outdoor venue). Brown, an Ivy League school known for having among the strictest protocols, is having in-person graduation for students only. Having ~1200 undergraduates in Fenway Park would fill just 6% of the venue's 20,000 person capacity. This percentage could be lowered even further if staggered ceremonies by department were organized. Furthermore, mask/testing/vaccine requirements and support for vulnerable students could be coordinated.
