The Issue

INDIVIDUALS WOULD SERVE LIFE IMPRISONMENT IF FOUND GUILTY!!

The State of Missouri is experiencing multiple unfair bills being submitted regarding immigrants. One of which, Missouri SB 72, calls for people to become bounty hunters. These bounty hunters will "hunt" undocumented citizens. These tips will be provided by individuals throughout the State of Missouri. Individuals who report and are correct will be paid $1,000. This is wrong for multiple reasons. First of all, the government is taking advantage of the economic state of the country and bribing individuals to report their friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and more. Secondly, how are individuals supposed to tell if someone immigrated legally or not? All citizens will have as "evidence" is someone's skin color and the language(s) they speak. This will encourage racism within the state. Third, where does this money come from? As we could be using state funds to increase roads, improve schools, give more funding to child care assistance, et cetera, certain representatives believe "hunting" individuals is more important.

There are a billion different reasons why this proposed bill is wrong. Let's ask ourselves, can someone be "illegal" on stolen land? Would our religions condone reporting one another for money, when all an individual seeks is a better life for themselves and their family? Do our morals and ethics condone that? For me, the answer is no to all of the above. If you feel the same way, I ask you to please sign this petition and show our lawmakers that we do not want this to be approved.

By the way, I am not a lawyer. This is my understanding of the bill based on the Missouri Senate website.
