We, the undersigned, hereby ask the Missouri Public Service Commission to DENY approval of SWEPCO's application to become a Missouri public utility, allowing them the authority of eminent domain.

The Issue

SWEPCO wants to build a 40 mile 345 kilo-volt transmission line, Route 109, like an expressway with no on/off ramps in Missouri. The proposed high voltage lines have no proven benefit to the residents of the State of Missouri in either transmitting or receiving energy for our state. SWEPCO proposes poles (towers) of up to 160 feet tall and at 6 poles per mile. The project would involve clearing out a 150-foot-wide path for the line. The path of the lines are then treated with herbicides destroying anything around the lines. These towers and high voltage transmission lines would significantly decrease property values; cause a loss of productive farmland; scaring the landscape forever and could cause serious health effects to the people living along the route. We strongly oppose the line and are asking the Missouri Public Service Commission to DENY AEP/SWEPCO the right to become an electric utility in the state of Missouri. This petition is for those of us who live in and/or love the Ozarks, who understand that we must work together to protect what is most precious to us - our quality of life, our homes and families, our environment, our properties and property values, and our livelihoods.
