Just as our schoolchildren have gotten settled into their classes, the Missouri legislature will make a decision that could upend the financial stability of schools throughout Missouri. If the legislature moves in September to again consider a package of extreme tax cuts vetoed by Governor Nixon, it will be against the best interests of schoolchildren and families in Independence and across the state. 

Although most Missouri families will benefit little from the tax cuts included in HB 253, they will bear the burden of drastic cuts to vital services across the state, including education.
