For those who don’t know the Armenian Genocide was the systematic murder of between 600,000 and 1 million Armenians living in the Ottoman Empire around the time of World War One. Now Mississippi has a bit of a history having to catching up culturally with the rest of the United States, but now that we’ve got the ball rolling by changing the old flag we should move on to other way to catch up with our neighbors. Just last year Alabama was the 49th state to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide, making Mississippi the very last state in the union to not do it. Why should we keep waiting to recognize something that quite obviously happened? What are we achieving by refusing to recognize this tragic event? Let’s catch up and make the United States as a whole recognize what happened.
