Mission PMPML 5@5 : A) Provide first 5 Km Bus Travel at Rs 5. B) Fix Bus Fare on Km Basis

The Issue

1.First stage of 2kms Bus fare is Rs 5 ( Rs 2.5 per km) & for 10 kms
Bus fare is Rs 10; i.e., one can travel additional 8 kilometers in
just Rs 5 more only( 62 paise per km ).

2.For 60 kms Pmp Bus fare is Rs 35 ( 58 paise per km)

3.Pmpml is local transport undertaking with main objective of catering
to the within city travel needs of citizens of twin metro cities: Pune
& Pimpri Chinchwad.The bus fare structure has to be, to promote bus
travel & discourage private vehicles in the city. The bus fare of Rs
2.5 to Rs 10 per km(Deccan Corner to Chitrashala,Paud phata to Nal
Stop,Symbiosis to Ratna Hospital etc thousands of stops in city Bus
fare Rs 10 just for 1km +_; i.e., Rs 10 per km) in city as against
58 paise per km for long distance travel outside limits of both cities
; contradicts the main objective.
The cost of 2 wheeler per head also is Re 1 per km(@ 40 kmpl).Even
Auto Fare is cheaper per km per head,
whereas if they travel by Pmp Bus, each one has to pay Rs 10 for same
distance.This fare structure is not viable and disincentive to bus
commuter.

4.Minimum 2 lakh citizens/commuters will benefit.

5.Senior citizens,Students,Maids,Nursing staff, Security people,slum
dwellers,patients,self employed, small vendors, Office goers, shopping
house wives,citizens visiting S T & Railway
stations/terminals,coaching/hobby/skill/art classes etc will be main
beneficieries.

6.It will support / contribute education, health, employment, environment.

7.The several circular routes of 5 km can be planned in city with
single bus fare of Rs 5 and freedom to board & get down at any stop
eneroute. Many cost saving / commuter promoting measures can be
planned.

8.The fare structure will be in synch at Rs 1 per km for 5-10-15-20
kms ( normal max city travel)
