Revoke The Crowns Of Miss Indiana & Miss Outstanding Teen Indiana For Animal " Wrestling "

This petition had 23,700 supporters

Animal welfare is a growing concern in our world and among those concerns are a sport called pig wrestling that has been occurring in many midwestern states over the last few years as fairs look for more ways to make money. Sports involving the exploitation of animals are grotesque and “pig wrestling” is no different. In this loathsome activity, teams of four humans chase a terrified pig around a muddy pit, attempting to catch it and carry it to the center of the rink before time runs out. The contestants dive on top of it as it runsaway, grab its legs, pin it against the fence, slam it to the ground, and attempt to carry it as it struggles desperately to escape. This poor animal is also at times dropped into the pit of muddy water going under water during this attempt to get away from these people. The pig may also urinate or defecate out of sheer terror while being pursued by the human contestants, generating public-health concerns as well. Under no condition would we allow a dog or cat to be terrorized or injured this way. Many petitions against the barbaric sport have been circulated in the last few years with some areas agreeing that in the best interest of animal welfare that they should discontinue them. Some areas however have refused to stop this abuse with Noble Co. Indiana being one of them at their community fair. The 2 current Indiana crown holders have both participated in this cruel sport and are shown in many photos laughing and having a great time with it. Miss Outstanding Teens photo was part of a petition that circulated last year that had over 12,000 signatures on it and was presented to the fair board with no response. Miss Indiana and her family have participated as well, click on the Swine Rodeo page for the fair this year below to see her photo. There is nothing beautiful or outstanding about this. We feel that this lack of basic compassion and willingness to potentially harm an animal conflicts with the values  and rules of conduct set forth by the Miss Indiana Scholarship pageant and these girls do not represent what is required to be holders of these titles. Please sign and share the petition and show that this is a serious case of animal abuse and outright bullying of another living being and that there is no place for it in a modern day society or beauty pageant.
