I’m shocked that I’ve had to create this petition holding Which? to account for misconduct but the organisation is behaving appallingly and taking advantage of its good reputation to act with impunity.

The problems began when I was looking for advice on a tenancy matter, signed up to Which? Legal and was provided with incorrect advice. I stopped using Which? Legal and made a complaint to Which? about the issues I’d encountered but my complaint wasn’t upheld. The only responsibility Which? accepted was that its advisers ‘could have been clearer’ in certain areas. I decided to challenge this decision and I was then contacted by the Head of Legal Operations from Which? Legal. We began a dialogue but, from the outset, he was also unwilling to accept his advisers had made any errors.

Meanwhile, I'd turned to Shelter, the housing charity, and within a few minutes of speaking to an adviser, they clarified my options in a way that made perfect sense. In doing so, it became clear that Which? Legal had misinformed me regarding two County Court claims:

1.     Advising me I couldn’t submit my case in the small claims track – Shelter informed me this was an option.

2.     Stating I could submit a compensation claim up to the value of £1,000 – Shelter advised me the figure was £10,000.

So, I wrote to the Head of Legal Operations at Which? Legal asking him to explain the discrepancy and he was still unwilling to acknowledge his advisers had made errors. He even went as far as to claim the two lots of advice were not at odds.

I made Which? CEO, Anabel Hoult, aware of the issues I was experiencing with her legal service but she showed no interest in taking action. Given Which? has demonstrated it’s unable to hold itself to account, I’m now calling on Anabel Hoult to employ the company Second Sight to carry out an independent investigation into the misconduct I experienced.
