Rose Whipple, Frances Wetherall and the Youth Climate Interveners

Aug 8, 2017
The fires lit by Standing Rock have spread to Minnesota. This August, a group of indigenous youth, three of us being Youth Climate Intervenors, will undertake a 250-mile canoe journey across northern Minnesota to stand for the cleanest lakes, wildlife, the manoomin (wild rice) beds and the 1855 treaty territories of the Ojibwe people. We’ll be starting August 12th and going until September 2nd.
We will start where the new Line 3 would cross the headwaters of the great Mississippi River, and travel a traditional canoe route to end at Big Sandy Lake, where hundreds of Ojibwe were killed by the U.S. government in 1850.
To learn more about our journey, check out the above video of Rose explaining the impacts of the proposed line 3 and why indigenous youth are embarking on a 250-mile canoe journey to help preserve the land, water, and our cultural ways.
This journey is so important to us. Will you donate so that we can be well fed, purchase the supplies we need, and most importantly stay safe while we are on our journey?
