Legalize mobile barbershops

Legalize mobile barbershops
The Issue
Barbershops in Minnesota Currently Face Many Hurdles in Minnesota.
Barbershops hold special significance as an honored institution of the black community. Many people are not aware that barbers are subject to overly harsh regulations, laws which we believe were put in place to unfairly hold us back.
This sharply contrasts with laws and regulations concerning salons, which largely tend to target a broader demographic and enjoy a much more relaxed grip from our governing hand. A prime example: As of today it is legal for cosmetologists to have shops on wheels, but remains illegal for barbers. This needs to change.
Additionally, our landscape changed dramatically with the arrival of COVID-19, which forced barbers to take time off, turn away clients, and drastically change how we operate.
New Rules For a New Age.
The answer to all of this is the mobile barbershop. Mobile barbershops provide lower overhead for single mother/father barbers, allowing us to keep our prices affordable. But more than affordability, this is about accessibility.
A mobile shop will allow us to provide safe, affordable haircuts and grooming to hospital and nursing home residents. We believe it is essential that barbers in a post-COVID world be courteous to those with weaker immune systems and provide them with a designated air-filtered/sterilized environment, and this is what makes mobile barbershops especially appropriate right now.
Mobile barbershops will allow barbers to work in a one-on-one setting and provide a safe environment by wearing masks, using air purifiers, and frequently washing hands and disinfecting all tools and implements. .
We Need Your Help.
We believe now is the perfect time for change. The Minnesota barber board is regulated by the Governor and we need Governor Walz to make it legal for barbers to have mobile barbershops.
Let’s level the playing field and create a safe environment for barbers and our clients in a post-COVID Minnesota!
