With the start of the college football season, and other high school sports, we are asking the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) to reconsider the decision regarding the upcoming basketball season. Instead of a “possible” season starting in January, we would like to start our season in October as it was initially scheduled. We urge the MCAC to put faith in its student-athletes to make the right decisions on and off the court. We student-athletes have been working tirelessly and are motivated more than ever to play this season. It would be unfair and unjust for all our hard work, sacrifice, and commitment to be thrown to waste. Mandatory COVID screenings, adoption of rules from other sports leagues, and safety precautions from health professionals can easily be implemented to make this happen. We acknowledge the MCAC for trying to keep everyone safe, but college sports is a once in a lifetime opportunity for students. For some, basketball is the reason they are at college, and for others it’s a highlight added on to their college experience. We hope that you consider our proposal, as it will bring light, happiness, and unity in a time where many are facing uncertainty and distress.
