Stop the practice of DOWRY not just on PAPER but in REALITY

Stop the practice of DOWRY not just on PAPER but in REALITY
The Issue
India has always been a best law enforcement country on paper. Our forefathers have taken time to write down laws which prevents in-justice done to the county. The countrymen to follow were too great and found loopholes in them and used it for their own benefits.
One such law is THE DOWRY PROHIBITION ACT, 1961, (Act No. 28 of 1961). It clearly mentions :
If any person, after the commencement of this Act, gives or takes or abets the giving or taking of dowry, he shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than five years, and with the fine which shall not be less than fifteen thousand rupees or the amount of the value of such dowry, whichever is more
But since we Indians, at least most of us, take great pride in breaking laws, we even don't feel ashamed or afraid for asking for dowry. The grooms family, however educated they may be,thinks that it is their birth right. The bride side is helpless. If he refuses or complains, he will not get a descent match for his daughter in the great Indian society we all are proud of. Its seriously next to impossible to find even a one family in most of the societies who believes dowry as a sin.
The repercussion of dowry are :
- 1. Killing of girl child after death.
- 2. Not spending money on their education and saving it for marriage.
- 3. Low self esteem of the girl child
and many more....
If we sit and analyse, that who can really change it.The first answer coming to mind is the groom's family. But we can definitely teach people to follow law if they don't want to follow it on their own will, that's what a law enforcement agency is responsible for, right ?
Some of the suggestion are :
1. Random checks by policemen in normal wearable, to inquire at the marriage ceremony if any dowry is asked for or given to.
2. NGOs and helpline numbers active in rural places to help the victim to get settle without paying any dowry.
3.Public awareness through massive campaigns and advertisements.
We often come across so many cases of women molestation for not bringing descent dowry.I hope it will stop if the government show some strong intention in curbing this evil.
Please support and share this petition. Its now or never. Its for our sisters and daughters.
