Street lights and road widening for Ecole North Oyster

The Parent Advisory Committee for Ecole North Oyster School requests that the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure perform road and signage improvements at 13470 Cedar Road.

The reasoning for our request is to improve Student, Parent and Staff safety. This section of Cedar Rd. has a high volume of very fast moving traffic and every day Parents, Students and Staff face unsafe conditions when entering or exiting the Ecole North Oyster School site. Dark, rainy winter conditions amplify the problem.

Since becoming Ecole North Oyster School, formerly North Oyster Elementary School, enrollment has increased from 90 students in 2013/14 to 344 students attending currently.

- Install street lighting
- Put in flashing lights on existing crosswalk.
- Install additional crosswalk on the other side of the school from the existing  crosswalk.
- Install additional school zone signage.
- Widened road shoulders on both sides of Cedar Rd.
- Lower surrounding speed limit from 60km to 50km

Personal story

In the recent past, a young pre-school child was struck by a vehicle mirror when attending an event at the school.

Due to the incident last winter our school can no longer host evening events as its deemed unsafe. The children and families of Ecole North Oyster are feeling heartbroken that we are without the ability to host a Christmas Concert or any other events.
