Save Sounds Air - Make the Government Provide Financial Support to an Essential NZ Airline

The Government established a $600 million aviation sector relief package to provide financial support for Airways who have lost significant revenue due to Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.  So far, they have refused to provide Sounds Air with any financial support, meaning this essential business risks going into receivership.

Sounds Air has been a major contributor to the Marlborough economy, offering low cost inter-island transport to give locals and tourists easy access to the Marlborough Sounds and other regions across New Zealand. They employ 80 staff and link areas of New Zealand that other airlines don’t cover including Blenheim to Wellington, Blenheim to Paraparaumu, Blenheim to Christchurch, Wellington to Napier, Wellington to Westport and Wellington to Taupo.

When restrictions are eased, we will need Sounds Air to ensure people living in regional New Zealand can get to where they need to go. Some businesses are just too important to let fail.

I’m calling on the Government to immediately provide the financial support that this highly reputable business needs so we can save jobs and maintain our essential transport links. Sounds Air will be an important player in the economic recovery of regional New Zealand and our aviation sector.
