Why this petition matters

Started by Melvin Chua

Many mommies we have spoken to often think twice about bringing their kids out on a stroller. Many parents voiced that they are uncomfortable due to the quality of service provided by our public transport service operators.

  1. Not all bus captains stop the bus near the kerb of the bus stop, which result in parents having to carry the stroller up onto the bus with their child. (Most of the time, one parent alone because the other parent is working)
  2. Most bus captains are unwilling to bring down the rear ramp for prams as it is "for handicapped" commuters only.
  3. Most bus captains refuse to reposition the bus which result in front or rear door being inaccessible/blocked by the barriers at the bus stops.
  4. Most bus captains tend to reject parents with strollers giving the reason that the bus is "too full" for the stroller to board.

Many time when carrying the stroller up onto the bus, the weight that mummies have to carry would often be exceeding what they can manage, which creates a safety concern, especially for pregnant mummies.

While we understand that some guidelines are in place for the commuters, it seems that these rules are either not being communicated well to the captains or the captains are not being audited and reinforced to comply to these rules.

We hope that this petition can gain enough traction to highlight the daily difficulties that parents face to the respective bodies of the feedback from parents and for the necessary actions to be taken so that parents will not worry too much about the troubles they may face if they were to plan for more kids or couples to even plan to have a kid.
