Restaurants and bars have borne the brunt of the two lockdowns that the government has imposed over the past year. While the first Circuit Breaker was needed (and even the Heightened Alert) well understood by the community, this 2pax dine-in situation is unwarranted, and is making it even worse for restaurants in this limbo stage. 

While the government has given in to the population to help hawkers, the government does not seem to have taken into consideration the impact this has on restaurants.

  2. Landlords, for the most part, have NOT matched the 50% off the government is giving for rental (this is wishful thinking by the government, and they have to know that this could never have been the default for landlords
• Hawkers have been hit badly, and many have lack of access to digital channels to sell their wares, but that does mean that restaurant and bars are faring any better. Delivery apps are still charging extravagant rates.

Dine in for 2pax is almost more detrimental for restaurants, while helpful to hawkers. The government needs to properly think about this before throwing some arbitrary rules together. If there is a reason to this madness, then EXPLAIN IT CLEARLY.

A photo of a friend recently in a restaurant eating with her parents was ridiculous. They are from the same household, but she had to sit separately, and not share food. There is ZERO LOGIC to this rule. The government might think that people might try to flaunt this rule, but it still makes no sense when people are in close quarters at home. 

Lastly, the Prime Minister has said that most people will be vaccinated by National Day. We already getting close to infections and vaccinations for herd immunity (60-70%). 

MORE RESTAURANTS AND BARS WILL CLOSE if this set up continues to mid July. The government did a wonderful job this past year, and we acknowledge it, but this has now gone too far.

• Blood, sweat and tears have been shed
• How does the government expect people to set up more businesses after this?
• When no one in the government has been a business owner, and has always had an iron rice bowl (after they've started working), how can you understand the plight of industry?
