Respected Sir/Ma'am,

This petition is to request the Ministry of Textiles (Govt. of India), Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani and the Authorities of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) on the behalf of all the students of various NIFT campuses.

It is to inform you that although we are thankful to our institution for providing online classes from the past few months, in spite of the very practical syllabus of ours. But, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and crisis there's instability in the financial condition for most of the students of our institution. With the testing times presented before us, it’s extremely difficult for the majority of the students to pay the fees as many of our parents have faced a lot of challenges on the professional front (for example but not limited to - loss in their businesses, loss in jobs, pay-cuts etc.) which have left families affected on a larger part and the situation continues to worsen.

Thus, with due respect, we request:

1. 40% reduction on semester fees and same on the hostel fees, because we’re not using the amenities like hostel, mess, library, etc. of the institute also no events are to be engendered through direct/indirect funding from the institution for this academic year.

2. Internet data costs should be borne by the college authorities for commencement of online classes. Parents are burdened financially with arrangement of a standalone laptop/tablet along with headphones, scanner, printer and high-speed internet connection consuming up to 4GB data daily for a single student in doing online classes.

3. We have paid the entire fees of last semester (although that was an online semester) therefore we demand 3 months adjustment for the previous semester too.

Nobody wants any protest or violence against this, so hope you understand the situation and provide the necessary outcome.

Thanking You.

Yours faithfully,
Students of NIFT.
