Nagpur: In what could be the biggest environmental loss to the city, thousand of old tress are facing the axe for the construction of a transport hub and inter modal station in Ajni. The Project is coming up on Central Railway land which is a thriving biodiversity habitat of birds. The total Projects area is 446 acres and is home to different variety of trees which are easily over 80-100 years old. Reports 1222 trees will have to be chopped off for construction and over 700 will be felled for a school , housing, health care and railway offices.

City noted environment activist say that many small and medium sized trees have not taken into consideration. the actual number of tress that will be destroyed for the project will cross 7,000 says activist Shrikant Deshpande .
