A part Nellie Lake's old growth forest is being set to be clear cut.

These are sensitive lands, which include spring fed waters and marsh-lands, and walking trails that have been used for many generations. Proper buffers are not set to be maintained, creating great risk for contaminating the spring fed lake which has been heavily used by generations of families as well as visitors and tourists. Measuring the buffer area from a point of high water is unacceptable. The cut area shamelessly includes a large area of marshlands which will be completely destroyed by the logging policies put forward. At the very least, there MUST be much larger buffers maintained especially on either sides of waterways and roadways! A buffer of 1000 metres from any waters, or marshes is the VERY LEAST that must be done, if this cut is to continue.

There are also areas of red maple close to rock out crops and black ash. These black ash run the furthest North East that we know of in the river valley and absolutely need to be protected!! The black ash are about to be on the protected species list, and this needs to be considered. There are also endangered flowers such as lady slippers which grow in the areas. 
Furthermore, the planned cutting area includes an old garbage dump, that was used by early residences of the area. Who knows what contaminates are buried, waiting to spread into local waterways, should the area be clear cut. This area cannot be logged or disturbed with out a proper environmental report on the land where the dump was located. 

Ideally, this cut should be cancelled. The residents of Nellie lake DO NOT WANT THE OLD GROWTH AREA CUT. Most of the public is slow to learn of this cut, as it's been buried in terms terms like lots and concessions in Aurora Township, when many people do not realize Aurora Township is Nellie Lake area and few know the lots and concessions off hand. In the future, the information needs to be plainly posted where everyone can see, before it's too late to bring concerns up.

Iroquois Falls has lost its major source of income and we rely on beautiful areas like Nellie Lake to keep the town alive. STOP THIS CUT. Protect the land.
