Arrest people assaulting doctors at Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS)
The Issue
My friend is an Intern working at Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences, Hassan, Karnataka. On behalf of all the House Surgeons working here he would like to bring it your kind notice the untoward incident that took place on 1st January 2017.
It was around 12:05am when the whole world was celebrating the dawn of the new year & we Interns forsaking our celebrations were present in the Casualty of our hospital doing our duties.
Then it happened in a fraction of minutes, before we could even anticipate what's happening, there was a mob of 15 - 20 people who entered the casualty and started assaulting one of our co-interns even after repeatedly asking what their problem was. Then they went on to break the glass door and destroy hospital property. In the midst of all these chaos, THREE FEMALE House Surgoens were chased by inebriated hooligans all throughout the corridor. The House Surgeons who managed to escape went to the Police Outpost in the Hospital premises to call for help. Much to our dismay, the Police Guard who was on duty didn't open the door and he waited till other 4-5 Police Guards could arrive and when they finally arrived we went back to Casualty, the mob had already escaped.
The reason for all this riot turned out to be a patient with NO SIGNS OF LIFE & WAS DECLARED DEAD & shifted to mortuary after which we were attacked by the mob.
This is not an incident in isolation. Such incidents are happening everyday in some part of the country. It's high time we bring a change and we put a stop to such untoward incidents. Let no other Doctor face such incident in the future.
We will continue to protest till all the culprits are nabbed & arrested under a non-bailable warrant for assaulting a Medical Personnel doing his duty. Currently all House Surgeons and students are staging a strike in Hospital from 1st January 2017. We Doctors and students are humbly requesting you to help us.
