On the 10th of June 2020, Anees Hilmy, a 38 year old man, groomed and raped an 11 year old girl, a child who is yet incapable of making decisions for herself.

Something like this should not be taken lightly. Serious measures need to be taken and proper laws need to be implemented to ensure this does not happen again. And if and when it does, victims need to be able to get the justice they deserve. Abusers need to face serious repercussions. Maldives has become a safe haven for sex offenders and we have to actively stand against it in order to bring about meaningful change.
