Ikaba Lyabanyama started this petition to Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism and

It has come to light that efforts have been made to turn the Ikaba Area into a conservancy, without consulting all to be affected subjects residing in the Ikaba area. With varied disadvantages of conservancies such as;

The establishment of a conservancy will affect the grazing land as the area is already faced with over-grazing. The introduction of the conservancy will further increase the chances of livestock contracting diseases, particularly foot-and-mouth disease. More lives will be lost as the Human-Wildlife Conflict policy protects wildlife more than the value of human life.

People living in the proposed conservancy face eviction as this is a reference to about 1200 villagers from the Salambala Conservancy who face eviction after years of an ongoing dispute over an area reserved for wild animals. The evicted villagers have been living there from the 60s after they migrated from the Ikaba Area. People are now evicted from Salambala Conservancy back to Ikaba, which is now to be established as a conservancy and later evict the people again.

The Ikaba area is the largest area in the Kabbe South constituency and is an umbrella of various villages. The establishment of the conservancy will lead to expropriation of land assets and loss of access to land, loss of physical houses and cultural space. lose of access to common properties like rivers, forests, wastelands, and cultural sites.

This petition is, therefore, to bring alternative development to the Ikaba Area other than the establishment of a conservancy
