clearance to mining projects by environment ministry over video conference during COVID-19

The Issue

The NBWL had held a discussion on April 7 regarding a proposal for transferring 98.59 hectares of land from the Saleki Proposed Reserve Forest (PRF) for an open-cast coal mining project by North-Easter Coal Field (NECL) which is a unit of Coal India Limited(CIL). The meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate change Prakash Javadekar through a video conference.

Saleki is a part of the Dehing Patkai Elephant Reserve that includes the Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary covering 111.19 sq km of rainforest and several reserve forests in Sivasagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts. The move will permit preliminary drilling inside a wildlife sanctuary that is home to endangered lion-tailed macaques and great Indian hornbills.

this is only one case. On April 7 alone, at least 30 proposals (example : daimond mining in the panna forest belt,  a coal mine to be operated by Adani Enterprises with a coal-fired power plant in odisha's talabira forsts,  a geo- technical investigation in the sharavathi lion tailed Macaque Sanctuary in Karnataka and other forest areas were cleared or discussed over virtual meetings by MoEFCCl.

we should fight for our forest which covers only 31% of world land area. they are home to many engendered species + also lungs of our planet.

It is troubling that our government are drawing the opposite  lesson from COVID-19 challenge and government termed it as "seamless economic growth"  really is this is real meaning of growth????

Rather, they will further endanger habitats and lives and intensify our vulnerability to infectious diseases and related socio-economic shocks.... i want support of yours to stop this mentality and lives of innocent animals
