I have endured the lasting effects that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on our school. This historic event has significantly impacted my life by causing high levels of stress, anxiety, and an overall negative impact on mental and physical health. As a student of the University of Guyana, in these most stressful times, I feel that classes should remain online until it is deemed absolutely safe to return to in class. I am of the view that returning to “in class” will put my health and life at jeopardy with the Covid 19 virus. 

As we head into the new school year, we need to acknowledge that this pandemic is not over yet, and that students will still be impacted by its presence. Because of this, the undersigned demand that the University of Guyana remain online to support its students.

Do not force students to jeopardize our health and wellness with requirements to return to the classroom/ overwork themselves in order to succeed when the mental strain of a pandemic is still prevalent. Give us the ability to succeed this year.

Research has shown that vaccinated people are still dying even though they have had both vaccines. At the same time, it is well known that the omricon variant is very transmittable. I don’t want to abandon my studies because I am forced to return to “in class” at UG. Please keep UG online until Covid is over. We have families and friends to care for! Thank you.
