Climate change, according to an online source, is defined as the change in statistical distribution of weather patterns when that change lasts for an extended period of time. It means that there is a change in the usual weather found in a particular area. This could be also a change in how much rain a place normally gets in a year. When climate change occurs, there is a rise in the temperature of the earth's atmosphere. When there is a increase in earth's temperature, a lot of things occur brought by the consequences of climate change. The following are the possible effects caused by climate change: (1) melting of glacier and sea ice, (2) sea level rise which cause low-lying areas to sink, (3) extreme and more severe precipitations rate, creating great floods that may affect communities that are susceptible to these kinds of disasters, (4) more droughts and heat waves, which may affect agriculture, (5) spreading of diseases, (6) change in ecosystems, and other detrimental effects. So what are the driving forces that cause climate change to occur? The various activities that contributes to climate change are as follows:
(1) Burning of fossil fuels, which is the primary human activity that contributes to the increase of greenhouse gas concentration in the atmosphere,
(2) Deforestation or the clearing of forests,
(3) Increase vehicles,
(4) Emissions of GHG,
(6) Emission of C02,
(7) Sunspot and Solar Cycle,
(8) Volcanic Eruptions; and
(9) Methane emissions from animals.
Global climate change is regarded as one of the most pressing environmental issues today. This petition aims to create awareness about the facts and dangers brought by climate change. If this petition persuades everyone, we can lessen or reduce the effects caused by the Climate Change. If we are to mitigate the devastating effects brought by this environmental issue, we can ensure that we can regulate the condition of the earth and so that the future generations would not have to suffer from it. We must protect our common home for us to have sustainable development, just like how Pope Francis stated in his second encyclical, "Laudato Si".
