I the undersigned believe that Dr Kuruvilla George is in a significant conflict of interest to hold a position as the Deputy Chief of Psychiatry Victoria while being a member of "Doctors For The Family".

As noted at the Department Of Health Victoria website the role of both Chief and Deputy Chief of Psychiatry involves :
-receive and review statutory reports relating to seclusion, mechanical restraint, electroconvulsive therapy, annual examinations and reportable deaths

-investigations concerning treatment-related issues where the Chief Psychiatrist determines such an investigation is warranted

-statewide clinical review of approved mental health services to examine the standard, quality and consistency of clinical practice provided

-investigation of complaints from consumers and carers

-management of enquiries and correspondence from members of the public, service providers and other organisations

-development of clinical guidelines and circulars concerning application and interpretation of the Act

-establishment and maintenance of practice standards

-provision of high level advice and consultation

Currently the addition of Dr Kurvilla George's support of the "Doctors For The Family" submission against the Marriage Equity Amendment Bill 2010 clearly demonstrates that he would not be able to engage the above roles to the best of his ability without significant conflicts of interest.

It is requested Dr Kurvilla George be stood down from the position of Deputy Chief Of Psychiatry Victoria until he is able to clearly demonstrate that he would be able to offer full care and support of all mental health clients regardless of their sexuality.
