The sad demise of a female cardiologist of medical profession at stanley medical college, chennai by comiting suicide made me write this petition. The reason stated in the press is the female doctor was depressed over her position of inability to raise her 15 months kid because of her work schedule.
Women health care workers like doctors, nurses, pharmacists, community health nurses, housekeeping staffs constitute around 80 % of health care workers in the state of Tamilnadu, India. But the benefits like maternity leave is not adequate and not available for the deserving people due to governmental system delays and confusions. No child care leave in state government policy. Labor laws speaks about provision of creches at work places to facilitate women workers. But this is not yet considered by state government for implementation. Hence women health care workers resign the job after exhausting the maternity leave. The women health care workers who can't resign due to family or financial conditions suffer a lot like bringing kid to work places, meetings, field works. The right of the child to grow in a nice environment is affected. Further the woman is not at peace while at work as she has to take care of the kid as well as patients at work place. In order to ensure good mother and child development and safe healing of patients at the health sector i request the authorities of Government of India and State government of Tamilnadu to initiate the steps to start creches at hospitals for women health care workers.
