Drop board criteria for admissions into IITs and NITs for the year 2020

The Issue

Currently one of the eligibility criteria to get admission in IITs and NITs is that a candidate must have secured at least 75% aggregate in class 12 boards exams or they must be in the top 20 percentile of successful candidates.

This year the coronavirus pandemic has caused major disruption in the evaluation of class 12 students.A lot of boards had to delay and later cancel their board exam in the issue of public safety. This caused a lot of confusion as each board individually decided how to deal with the problem. While some boards decided to consider the average of already conducted exams others decided to use the internal marks alloted to the students. This has caused a lot of problems and widespread confusion.

Secondly as lockdown was announced in the middle of board examinations there was not enough time for examiners to properly correct the papers and the examiners were also under a lot of pressure to complete the corrections as soon as possible. So the quality of corrections may have been compromised.

If a student due to some reason was not able to give his best in a single paper then they have no chance of recovering their marks by performing better in the subsequent papers. Also each individual student has his own strong and weak subjects so if a student has not been able to appear for subjects in which (s)he was guaranteed to perform well then this will directly cause them to lose grades and may not be able to get admission into IITs and NITS due to no fault of theirs and thus all their hardwork will go waste. Thus keeping in mind the special conditions that have been created this year due to coronavirus I request that the board criteria should be removed.for admission into IITs an NITs for the year 2020.
