Scrap Final Semester/Year Exams for Students of all Universities in India

The Issue

Dear All

This has come as a huge surprise for terminal (final) semester/year students that the UGC in its latest revised guidelines has recommended universities to conduct online/offline/blended mode of examination for terminal sem/year students by the end of September, 2020.

The terminal sem/year students in universities have already submitted multiple internal assessment assignments (at least 5-6 assignments) hoping that they will be marked based on the internal assessment system and many of them have even started preparation for the entrance examinations for their next academic course.

The sudden decision by the UGC is bound to cause mental agony to lakhs of terminal sem/year students especially when many states like Maharashtra and Punjab have already decided to scrap their exams and mark them based on internal assessment. SIGN MY PETITION

The exams of terminal sem/year students by the end of Sept, 2020 would also mean a delay in the commencement of the new academic session for fresh (1st sem/year) batches. The new UGC guidelines are not in the larger interest of the terminal sem/year students and should be scrapped.

It should also be noted that ideally the exams of terminal sem/year students in offline mode should have taken place in May/June, 2020 in the absence of the covid 19 pandemic. However, that did not happen because of the pandemic and in the month of May and June there were far less corona positive cases in India than there are now. The covid situation is only worsening in India by each passing day and therefore to stress on exams for terminal sem/year students without taking their physical and mental health into consideration is an uncalled for step by the UGC which it should reconsider and roll back at the earliest. The UGC should also issue a fresh set of guidelines recommending the universities to evaluate all terminal sem/year students based on their internal assessment assignments by the end of July.
