Mr. Prashant Bhushan is a high profile supreme court lawyer from India. He often represents people free of charge on serious public interest issues. Thus, he has represented Ms Aruna Rodrigues of India in her legal challenge against the Government of India with regard to releasing of any GMO whose safety has not been satisfactorily proven. I have covered Aruna's case in my blog (http://www.tonu.org/2013/06/09/aruna_rodrigues_gmo1/) with an audio podcast of her speaking with me. I have also covered her court case in an earlier update on this petition. I had asked her to help me speak with Mr. Bhushan on the law with regard to hidden safety data on this GM technology, and if the people in a democratic society had or did not have a right to cross check how our Government works with regard to items of great importance to the safety of people's food and health, such as GMO or Glyphosate. Mr. Bhushan readily agreed to speak with me, but very late at night when he was finally free. And here is what he had to say. In short, people not only have a right to check safety data, it more or less is the duty of the people to verify if the Government and its regulatory authorities are doing their job honestly or not, and that access to such safety records are part of the right to information, a fundamental right, for the citizens of any democratic nation.
