A time when about one-fourth of the country's population lives below the poverty line, the proposal of a whopping amount of INR 200 Crores (approx. INR 2500 Crores project) for the construction of Sardar Patel's statue fails to justify itself. If it is so important, we demand a logical explanation as to how this would add to India's progress and development. More importantly, how will it benefit the Indians. There are several other issuesthat demand an immediate concern and expenditure from the government, such as poverty, hunger, beggary, rise in crime against women, sanitation, amenities such as electricity and water, basic infrastructure in suburban and rural areas, etc.

Agreed that Late Mr. Patel was a great leader, if he needs to be immortalized, the same amount could be spent eradicating the country's problems. This would give his blessed soul a greater sense of satisfaction. Had he been alive, he would have never spent the common man's hard earned money on glorifying a great leader.

Even the great Mughals's ran out of wealth due to their ambitious building pojects, ultimately paving the way to their decline. Please understand that this is democracy (of the people, by the people, for the people) not monarchy, where the taxpayer's money can be spent on building monuments or ambitious landmarks, which will prove of little or no use to the common masses. 

Let democracy win through this small effort before the project is commenced on ground.
