DOC Commences Demolition

Today DOC started the demolition, or as they put it dismantling, of the Aniwaniwa Visitor Centre. This is a said day for all of those that have been involved in trying to save this important piece of our nations heritage, especially the Scott Whanau who were in attendance today to have a final walk through the Centre and to say goodbye. They were supported by a contingent of architects who travelled up from Wellington on Sunday to also say goodbye. Historic Places Aotearoa continues to be appalled that a government department can set about the destruction of our heritage without due consideration of the people of this country. What is more disturbing is this is the organisation charged with conserving our heritage for future generations. We urge you to keep sharing the petition as the Minister needs to understand that we expect better of the Crown.
