Airlines are interested in operating direct International flights to Madurai but non-inclusion of Madurai airport in Bilateral treaties of various nations hits them, thereby, pushing us to waste our time, energy and hard-earned money in other airports.

Madurai, being a major tourist destination and emerging Medical tourism center, the much-deserved International airport became a reality just recently and very lately.

We, the people from 8 southern districts - Madurai, Virudhunagar, Ramnad, Sivaganga, Theni, Dindigul, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and few fraction from Pudukottai, Kanyakumari districts depend on Madurai airport for our needs. All these years, we wasted our time, energy and hard earned money by using Tiruchirapalli, Chennai and Trivandrum airports to fly abroad.

Now, Madurai has got a Customs airport and handling International services directly with Spicejet and Mihin Lanka operating direct Madurai-Colombo flights. It's being said that Madurai airport is not included in the Bilateral Air Service agreements of various Middle-east and Far-east nations which is being a barrier to introduce direct International flights from Madurai to much needed Dubai, Singapore, Kuala lampur(Malaysia), Saudi arabia, Abu dhabhi and Muscat.

We kindly request MoCA to consider the plea of 8 districts of Southern Tamilnadu, and take necessary measures to include Madurai airport in the Bilateral treaties of various Middle east and Far east nations as earlier as possible so that the airliners can introduce direct Services from Madurai to these nations within a year.

Beyond everything, the down-trodden districts of Southern Tamilnadu including Madurai district completely depend on Madurai airport for its Industrial and economical growth. The move, enabling direct International flights from Madurai to Middle east and Far east nations, will boost up the Tourism, Medical Tourism, Industrialisation and Information technology sector growth in these region and give soul for all-over growth.
