Appeal for Events Industry in Singapore

The Events industry in Singapore is at the very frontline of impact in the Covid19 crisis, as hard hit as tourism, aviation, hospitality and F&B.  All events including launches, concerts, exhibitions have been cancelled, postponed and banned.

MICE alone contributed $3.8B to Singapore’s GDP in 2018, and the industry ecosystem comprises over 1500 SMEs, providing livelihoods for 34,000, from events management, to technical and audio  companies, production, logistics and event manpower.   The entire industry has been on its knees since gatherings were banned in February and March, with most companies making zero revenue.

Many companies have already had massive layoffs, put teams on No-Pay-Leave and many will close down in the next three months. Many livelihoods will be lost, as our industry is completely unsustainable.

MICE venues have received the 75% manpower concession along with other industries perceived as most impacted, as per the Resilience package, but all other vendors, organisers, production and technical companies have been overlooked.

While many businesses are suffering at this time, our industry is hardest hit, most companies face revenues reduced by more than 90%. In view of this impact, we appeal for our industry to receive up to same 75% manpower concessions as Tourism, Aviation and Hospitality, as outlined in the Resilience Package.

The show can’t go on. Please help us keep the lights on.
