Stop council from evicting the elderly

Every single day we scroll Facebook, Instagram, news sites. We shake our heads in disgust at decisions that are being made around us, that are apparently for us. Decisions that affect our rights & the way of life we so fiercely want to protect. Yet even with the heart ache, we keep scrolling because we are so small, how could we possibly make an impact?!
But what if it you could?! What if you could help make a difference for a family who so desperately need it.
Charalambos and Chrystalla Koutsoullis are about to lose their home. A home that has raised 6 children. A home that is raising 19 grandchildren. A home that has 40 years of love, laughter, tears and memories built into its walls. The only home they have known since fleeing Cyprus during the war 1976. They are 83 and 77 and they are being forced to leave.
The Georges River Council wish to acquire the Koutsoullis’ home to widen an existing car park (which currently has no plans, nor any funding in place to complete). While we appreciate their agenda, this does not make the catastrophic impact to this elderly couple any easier to stomach. They are not asking the council to retract their plans, they are simply asking that they can remain in their home for the period of their natural lives (or until they are no longer able to remain there independently).
The day that we give in to bullies and idle threats is the day that we are no longer free within our own Country. The Koutsoullis’ came here with nothing. They built a home, raised a family and created a lifestyle engulfed in love, trust and hard work. They deserve respect, understanding and patience. Please help us to stand up for 2 of our own that cant defend themselves.
In the wise words of Joni Mitchell, ‘They paved paradise, and put up a parking lot’.
