Cumbrians want the agreed option for reorganisation of Cumbria to be a single unitary.

To split into two does not make good sense, for many reasons including:

it’s a waste of money splitting the current County Council in two. Merging together with districts and borough councils is the way to bring economies of scale and save money. The added administration running and contracting all the services into two separate sub-regions (Social Care, Schools and Academies, Highways and capital projects, central services, etc) means Council Tax would certainly go up for everyone.

it puts the two in competition with each other, neither being big enough to be heard nationally. For a small population like ours, we need a united voice - North Yorkshire and Somerset get to be single areas, why not us? 

Carlisle is not West Cumbria, Barrow is not East Cumbria. 

It does not remove the confusion of who does what - this split adds yet another layer of bureaucracy and breaks the County in an arbitrary line and confusion.
