Stop the torture of Saharawi political prisoners in Morocco, #beforeitstoolate

19 Saharawi human rights defenders known as the “Gdeim Izik group” have been abritrary detaineed in Morocco for seven years. They have suffered and are still suffering under torture and inhumane treatment. Several of them are now on hunger strike to protest the conditions they are subjected to. With this petition we urge the moroccan authorities to stop the torture of this group of human rights defenders, and to #freeHRDs currently imprisoned in Morocco, #beforeitstoolate.
The Gdeim Izik-group are openly advocating for the right to self-determination for the people of Western Sahara, a non-self-governing territory under partial occupation by Morocco. Their imprisonment, the usage of solitary confinements and constant harassment are aimed at punishing them for their advocacy for the right to self-determination.
Without prior notice, the group was relocated and separated into 6 different prisons throughout Morocco. This happened in the middle of the night on the 16th of September 2017. None of them were allowed to take their personal belongings with them, and all were deprived of food and medicine. During the first weeks after transportation, the human rights defenders were kept in isolation cells and allegedly subjected to constant harassment by the prison guards. Many slept on cold concrete floor, wearing nothing but the clothes they were forcibly transferred in. All of the human rights defenders are imprisoned far from their families, and some are held isolated from the rest of the group.
Since the transfer, all the human rights defenders have undergone hunger strikes. Three are currently on open hunger strike, two for over 30 days. Their situation is life-threatening. Please join us in sending a message to Moroccan authorities! The torture and gruesome treatment must stop #beforeitstoolate, and the Moroccan government must #freeHRDs. To defend human rights is not a crime.
