Friends of Snowden,
Decision day has arrived! This coming Monday night, June 25 at 6:30 PM, City Council will decide what to do with regards to Snowden. This is when we need to show them that there is a high level of public support for them to take strong action to protect the trails in the Core Area.
City councillors are reviewing a report from their staff about the Snowden situation. The full 106 page report can be accessed at the link below.
City staff are recommending that Council ask the provincial government to halt all logging and roadbuilding activity in Snowden until a long-term (20 year) recreation and logging plan has been developed, with input from all stakeholder groups. This is exactly what the River City Cycle Club has been asking for for years. A long-term plan is desperately needed if the key values that make Snowden so special are to be protected.
Please take some time out of your busy lives to show up at City Hall on Monday night at 6:30 PM. Your presence will help encourage Council to make the tough decision to lobby the provincial government for the moratorium and the plan. This is crunch time. This is your opportunity to help maintain and enhance this high quality outdoor recreational asset for you, your family, and your friends.
Please post this on your social media accounts and encourage your friends and family to pop down and support this initiative.
Thank you!
Garry
